Get to know Mrs Mendoza

Hello and welcome to 7A!

My name is Alyann Paular, and I will be your child's teacher for this school year! I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education in the Secondary route. My major is in Social Studies, and my minor is in Moral/Religious Education. I also hold a Certification in Catholic Intellectual Tradition from St. Joseph's College.

Alongside my high school practicum experiences, I have been teaching Catechism (Grades 1, 3, and 6) at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton for five years. I have a deep passion for teaching in a Catholic environment because it allows me to freely share the beauty of our Catholic faith and help students integrate it into their daily lives.

I genuinely hope to guide my students to become self-reflective individuals who look beyond themselves. Inspired by St. John Paul II, I aim to help build their self-confidence and encourage them to dream boldly. My teaching style is student-centered and based on discovery learning, and I pray it will create a positive impact and supportive environment for all.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a registered nurse. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Calgary. Many people ask me about the career change—it's a long story, but I always sum it up like this:
“I fell in love with nursing, but God called me to be a bridge for His children.”

Now for some fun facts about me!

  1. I used to be a competitive dancer and choreographer. I was even scouted, but my parents didn’t see it as a long-term path.

  2. In person, I might look younger than you expect.

  3. I’m a gamer! I enjoy playing video games and visiting escape rooms in my spare time.

It was such a joy meeting my students! With God’s grace, I hope to meet you all someday soon.

May God continue to smile upon your hard work,

Miss Alyann Paular
